Casting EU leaders as a threat to Europe

What it claims

Comments by MEPs about Ursula von der Leyen and Kaja Kallas are cast as proof that the EU leadership is Europe’s main threat and is leading it towards war and ruin. The posts quote politicians while reducing migration, regulation, economic hardship and support for Ukraine to a single plan by the Brussels leadership. Corruption allegations and everyday examples are inflated into an image of a government hostile to Europeans.

How to counter

• Fact-check: A speech by one MEP is not the position of the European Parliament. Distinguish a politician’s personal statement from a resolution or another formal decision adopted by Parliament.
• Technique exposure: When different problems, from prices to migration and war, are explained by one malicious plan, analysis is being replaced with a universal culprit. Check whether separate evidence is offered for each allegation rather than just an emotional list.
