Amplifying fear of “war fever” in Europe

What it claims

European calls for defence preparedness and debate about military service are cast as deliberate “war fever”, in which governments are preparing to sacrifice young people. Border security and migration are reduced to supposed proof that the state is not worth defending. Protests against a possible change in service rules are portrayed as young people’s refusal to take part in the government’s wars.

• Prebunk: Before elections or defence announcements, check whether reports of a security event are being turned into “proof” of a pre-planned war. Check service rules, Bundestag decisions and the source of a video or post separately.
