Dismissing Polish institutions through sarcastic portrayals of decisions and events

What it claims

Sarcastic posts portray different decisions, public events and political disputes as evidence that Polish institutions act performatively or absurdly. Unrelated topics are reduced to one image of a state that merely imitates work. Ironic questions and caricatured comparisons stretch criticism of individual actions into a conclusion about the whole system.

To reinforce among low-trust Poles the belief that state institutions cannot be trusted and that public decisions are merely an imitation of action.

Techniques used

The real grievance it exploits

Poles’ frustration with political conflict and complicated administrative procedures, alongside concerns about the quality of education and public services.

How to counter

• Technique exposure: Compare a specific decision with its content and consequences rather than with a sarcastic generalisation: one dispute or shortcoming does not describe the work of every institution.
• Prebunk: During new reforms or public disputes, watch for collections of unrelated episodes presented as a single proof of the state’s enduring incompetence.
