Portraying decisions on Belarusian applicants as Polish hostility towards the opposition

What it claims

Individual decisions concerning Belarusian applicants are cast as Poland turning against Belarus’s entire democratic opposition. Monthly comparisons of refusals and positive decisions are inflated into an image of a systemic state policy. Changes in legal reasoning are labelled proof that Warsaw has abandoned its previous support.

How to counter

• Technique exposure: Distinguish a set of individual administrative cases from evidence of a change in state policy. Comparing figures across several months does not by itself explain the grounds for each case or demonstrate a political course.
• Reframe: When decisions on protection are presented as abandoning the Belarusian opposition, check whether the grounds of specific cases are provided rather than only a selection of aggregate figures and a political conclusion.
