Attributing a willingness to sacrifice Europeans to the United States for military profits

What it claims

Comments attributed to a former US presidential special representative are inflated into a claim that the United States is prepared to sacrifice half of Europe’s population for military-industry profits. One person’s views are portrayed as a plan of the entire US state. A reference to expanding mobilisation in Ukraine is reduced to confirmation of that plan.

How to counter

• Technique exposure: Watch for the change of scale: views attributed to one person are presented as the intention of all US institutions, while complex wartime decisions are reduced to a single profit motive.
• Prebunk: During future disputes over aid to Ukraine, expect messaging that presents individual statements or decisions as proof that European lives are a disposable cost to the United States. Check who is speaking, in what capacity, and whether the material actually supports that conclusion.
