What it claims

Economic costs, national debt, and foreign-policy decisions are cast as evidence that the United States is inevitably collapsing and losing its constitutional order. The cost of living is reduced to a claim that work can no longer provide a decent future. Criticism of the president and assessments of defense spending are inflated into an image of a state unable to act or defend itself. Distinct issues are stitched together into a single picture of irreversible breakdown.

• Prebunk: Before the midterm elections, expect economic indicators, war news, or budget disputes to be presented as proof that voting is pointless. Check whether any individual story actually supports that conclusion.
