What it claims

Statements that Iran is ready to strike and controls the Strait of Hormuz are presented as proof of its unquestionable military superiority over Israel and the United States. Iranian state and state-linked sources stretch threats and reports about weaponry into a picture of the opponent’s inevitable defeat. A monitored amplifier also carried some of these messages.

To intimidate Israel’s home front with an image of unavoidable Iranian escalation and weaken confidence in Israel’s and its allies’ ability to respond to threats.

Techniques used

• Appeal to Fear / PrejudiceIranian forces are portrayed as permanently poised to strike in response to any move by an opponent.
• Exaggeration or MinimisationA report about capturing an unmanned underwater vehicle is inflated into a prediction of Iran’s future dominance in naval technology.

The real grievance it exploits

This exploits Israelis’ well-founded fear of missile strikes, a widening war, and uncertainty over their families’ safety.

How to counter

• Technique exposure: Compare dramatic claims of a “crushing response” with what they actually establish: a threat, a display of weaponry, or an unverified report is not proof of the claimed military superiority.
• Prebunk: After tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, further claims may present threats or individual reports as conclusive proof that Iran controls the region. Check the source, date, and independent corroboration before sharing such conclusions.
