Stoking fear through “US biolabs” near the Polish border

What it claims

Russian outlets are spreading conspiracy theories about the development of American biological weapons in Ukrainian institutes directly near Poland's borders. This campaign uses Russian Ministry of Defence reports to create the perception of an imminent epidemiological threat supposedly originating from a neighbouring state under Washington's control.

How to counter

• Technique exposure: Note that the “biolabs” claims are part of a long-standing Kremlin disinformation campaign that has failed to provide any independent verification over years of its existence.
• Fact-check: Ukrainian laboratories are part of an international public health monitoring network, and their activities are transparent and aimed at preventing diseases, not creating them.
