Framing negotiations as US coercion of Ukraine into concessions

What it claims

Contacts between US envoys and Moscow and Kyiv are cast as US pressure on Ukraine to accept concessions. References to a “breakthrough before winter” and to “compromises” reduce negotiations to a scenario in which Kyiv must accept a decision made without it. How to counter

• Technique exposure: The words “compromise” and “breakthrough” do not by themselves answer who is setting the terms, what is being proposed, or whether Ukraine can refuse. Reports about diplomatic contacts should be separated from the assertion that a decision has already been imposed on Kyiv.
• Reframe: Negotiations among several parties do not prove that one of them has lost the right to determine its own position. Any agreement should be assessed through its disclosed terms and the participants’ positions, rather than through an assumption of coercion.
